We bring you this week’s mailbag which is very offseason and Saints related!
Hello CSR! Welcome to Brian Answers, part two of our weekly Panthers mailbag for everyone! This week was all smiles and food takes as the Panthers defeated their division rival Saints. And head coach Dennis Allen got fired. Hilarious.
To recap, Brian Answers is our second part of a weekly fan mailbag, where you can ask Panthers related questions, football related, or even completely off topic questions! Let’s dive in!
Good_Ol_Boy: Do you prefer your yams with or without marshmallows on top? (Thanksgiving is coming)
I prefer marshmallows on top. It drowns out the flavor of yams. I dislike yams.
MtndancerSr: And to piggy back on that: Yams or sweet potatoes?
Sweet potatoes all day. More versatile in my opinion.
TLGPanthersFan: Still think the Panthers will pursue a QB, Ward it Sanders, during the draft?
I, honestly, don’t see another win after this game. Giants are bette than their record.
I am of the opinion that unless the Panthers string a few wins together circa 2022 that they will go get a QB at the top of the draft, even if it might make sense to go get a veteran QB or a mid round project to compete with Bryce. Ward or Sanders both could be guys if the offense is built properly around them.
I think they’ll sneak two more wins, this game potentially being one of them. Giants fans are not optimistic about their chances, and I still believe the Panthers will end the Chiefs winning streak!
bolshy: Would you rather us win a few more games this year or lose and get a better draft slot?
We all remember 2022 I’m sure, when the Panthers were looking to be one of if not the worst teams in the league, only for Steve Wilks to come in as the interim head coach and manage to put the Panthers within one win over the Bucs into the playoffs. They didn’t win that game, the Panthers picked 8th, and ended up making the infamous trade for Bryce Young that landed them here today. That was a different situation, as the Panthers had just fired their head coach, seemingly had no intention of retaining Sam Darnold, and were in a period of transition. This Panthers squad is not the same. Dave Canales is a rookie head coach, who is navigating his way through the current crop of QBs at his disposal, Dan Morgan is also a rookie general manager who looks to have brought in a solid draft of productive talent in this year’s draft, and has 11 picks at his disposal for 2025. Bottom line: I actually think winning will be good for this team, as they struggled to retain guys like Frankie Luvu and struggled to gain high end free agents without throwing a boatload of cash at them. I think winning games will show Carolina is not directionless, and that there is a future here for rookies and outside free agents to buy into.
right_turn_clyde: How do you think this win might affect DC’s game planning moving forward? Do you think he saw enough from the passing game to reduce the sweeps and screens? I understand the value of those plays but think we rely on them way too much, especially on short yardage and 3rd down situations.
While Bryce Young wasn’t lighting up the stat sheet, this was a solid performance from him (for his admittedly low standards), and he had a few drives where he actually delivered some balls down the field that could open up the offense if he can continue to progress in that regard. I think easy touches and quick passes are a staple of his current game plan, but I could very much see him opening that up. This will be a tough week for it against a Giants defense that is number one in sacks, however.
KeepPounding88: Would Deion prevent his kid from coming to Carolina if we had the chance to draft him?
I hope not, but all we can do is see what Carolina does with the rest of the season as far as making the Panthers a good landing spot for a rookie QB. See above for my long winded answer.
egon petri: For the game in Munich – which is your favorite of the big 6:
Augustiner, Hofbrau, Lowenbrau, Paulaner, Spaten of Hacker-Pschorr?
They’re all good, but I think Augustiner tastes the best. Hat tip to Schneider-Weisse for the best Weissbier (and best food).
Comment down below with your answers, this one is over my head but it is a great question.
schrodingersblackcat: Chuba rightfully gets a lot of love around CSR these days. So much so that a lot of folks are calling for a contract extension.
I admire his work ethic and enjoy watching him play, but I also have a strong bias against overpaying for veteran RBs (see: Miles Sanders) when it is often as effective and much cheaper to just roll with a younger RB on a rookie deal.
What is your best sales pitch for why we should offer Chuba a contract extension? What’s the magic number?
Well, they gave him that extension on Thursday, so the best sales pitch was dolla bills. But real talk, this was an important signing to show Carolina is a place to further your career, whether you like the contract or not.
Panthers 2112: Given the two teams the Panthers got one over on this week, would you rather be a Cowboys fan or a Saints fan if you were forced to pick one?
Cowboys. Any time, any where. I don’t care that the Cowboys were the Yankees of the NFL for years. You could never convince me to be a Saints fan.
erickbuck: Does any non-playoff win feel better than beating the Saints? I say no, even if beating the Falcons is satisfying.
I famously said for years on the Keep Sounding Podcast and even the Falcoholic podcast with our Atlanta friends, if the Panthers can’t make the playoffs, I am happy with them losing every game if it means the Saints fail in the playoffs. I’ve also said if I could pick any two games for the Panthers to win in a season, I’d pick the Saints twice and lose every other game.
That’s all, Panthers fans! Enjoy the early morning game on Sunday, and KEEP POUNDING!
