In the wake of quarterback Derek Carr’s injury, wide receiver Chris Olave may request a trade during the NFL Draft as the team may shift priorities. According to the breaking news, the Saints will have to move on without their signal-caller, who did return last year to play, but it looks like he’s going back on the reserve list. Carr was on fire last season, helping the Saints become a legitimate contender, and it didn’t pan out when the veteran couldn’t stay healthy. It appears that general manager Mickey Loomis will have no other choice but to rebuild, even though he’s been refusing to do so since the Drew Brees Era.
With that, it doesn’t make sense to keep Olave, who is already entering the final year of his rookie contract. The wide receiver may be better off joining a team that is a contender and could elevate him to the status of a legitimate WR1. Since the Saints will forcefully rebuild this offseason with second-year Spencer Rattler, it’s safe to say the Saints could look to field trade calls during the draft and see what they could get in return. Meanwhile, it might get difficult, being that he’s coming off a season-ending injury.
Originally selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the 2024 campaign didn’t go as planned for the wide receiver, who suffered a concussion. Despite that, these five teams may ring up the phone and offer the Saints a deal they can’t turn down.

Possible Next Teams
Los Angeles Chargers
Quarterback Justin Herbert should be put in the best position to win. It doesn’t sound like head coach Jim Harbaugh quite understands that, being that they don’t have a legitimate wide receiver other than 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey. Despite signing Mike Williams, he’s more of a nostalgic piece who is past his prime. They need someone consistent to develop into a primary target, and Chris Olave could fill that role.
Baltimore Ravens
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens arguably have one of the best offenses after signing DeAndre Hopkins to a one-year deal. It might not mean much for their future, as they will still need to search for their long-term answer behind Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. Olave is the perfect fit; he has the same body and strength, and if he can stay healthy, he could be Flowers’s new duo.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are in a weird dilemma this offseason. Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice will only achieve newer heights as long as they can stay out of trouble. However, Kansas City should try to get another superstar playmaker that can carve out a role for the longevity of this offense. Olave has those characteristics, and even though Marquise Brown is returning, it’s only temporary in an attempt to win a Super Bowl.
Carolina Panthers
For the Panthers, they’re in a good position to possibly head to their first playoffs in years if they play their cards right. Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker are two exploding but unproven wide receivers who have a lot of promise. However, this continues to be a development to see if they can be truly consistent. Veteran Adam Thielen won’t last more than two seasons, so the team should roll the dice on Chris Olave.
Dallas Cowboys
If anyone’s desperate for a wide receiver, it’s the Dallas Cowboys. The team has yet to find a replacement for veteran Brandin Cooks, who left to join the Saints. CeeDee Lamb needs someone to help him in the aerial attack to avoid overplaying him. Olave could help diminish the stress and finally create some separation in the aerial attack.
