Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales announced Wednesday that quarterback Andy Dalton is dealing with a sprained right thumb and will not start this week against the Denver Broncos. Instead, rookie Bryce Young will be the starting quarterback.
Dalton was involved in a car accident on Tuesday, along with his wife, three children, and their dog. No one was hospitalized, but Dalton was evaluated by the team’s medical staff.
“He feels good, other than his thumb,” Canales said, noting that Dalton did not practice on Wednesday. Coach sais that they will assess Dalton’s condition to determine if he can serve as a backup this week.
