Carolina loses third in a row
The Carolina Hurricanes had a another frustrating game as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night.
It was the third consecutive loss for Carolina.
Once again, the team fell behind 2-0 as the Wild scored 2:55 into the game on an open chance by Yakov Trenin and then 39 seconds into the third period when a puck got by Frederik Andersen when he tried in vain to lay on it.
It seemed Minnesota goalie, Filip Gustavsson would get a shutout but Sebastian Aho finally got a shot past him with just 2:48 left in the game.
The Canes came close a couple of times, including a close shot by Andrei Svechnikov that went just wide, but could not light the lamp again.
Jackson Blake was awarded a penalty shot midway through the second period, but came up short after making a great move.
The Hurricanes outshot the home team with shots on goal 38-24 but it seemed like the Wild had the better chances. They also missed the net 25 times and had 29 shots blocked for a total of 92 shot attempts, resulting in just one goal scored.
It is not the first time for the team to be unsuccessful with similar numbers.
The powerplay went 0-2 and they have a 4% success ratio since January 1. The ESPN+ announcers said it was the worst in franchise history.
The Canes have one more game before the break and will return home to face Utah on Saturday night.
