Early powerplay woes doom Carolina
The Carolina Hurricanes fell behind 2-0 once again, picked up speed in the third period and almost tied the game, but ended up losing to the Edmonton Oilers, 3-1 on Saturday night at the Lenovo Center.
The Canes had three powerplays in the first period alone but could generate absolutely nothing with them as they had trouble even advancing the puck into the offensive zone.
The Oilers scored a shorthanded goal to take a 1-0 lead during one of the powerplay fiascos.
In the second period, the visitors made it 2-0 with a Corey Perry goal at the doorstep.
The Hurricanes finally found their game in the third period and were generating better chances.
They were awarded another powerplay and this time they took advantage. Mikko Rantanen made a beautiful pass to Sebastian Aho in close, and Aho made no mistake to make it 2-1.
The home team came close a few times to tying it, but allowed an empty net goal with a fraction of a second left and lost, 3-1.
Frederik Andersen played well and allowed just 2 goals on the 30 shots he faced, but he was outplayed by Calvin Pickard who allowed one goal on 36 shots.
Other than the atrocious powerplay efforts in the opening period, it was a pretty evenly played game.
Next up will be a match with Calgary on Sunday at 5 P.M.
