The Canes come out flat in Toronto
The Carolina Hurricanes had a hard time getting into the flow of their hockey game against the Toronto Maple Leafs as they ended up with a 6-3 loss on Saturday night in Toronto.
Both teams had two weeks off for the “4 Nations Face-Off” tournament but the Hurricanes were the ones who looked incredibly rusty in the opening period as they fell behind 4-0.
The game seemed over after the first six minutes and change when it was 3-0.
The Leafs added another goal before the end of the period to make it 4-0.
After a scoreless second period, the Canes finally were able to light the lamp on a Shayne Gostisbehere shot with 12:27 gone in the third..
Then, they made it 4-2 when Andrei Svechnikov scored just two minutes later.
Jaccob Slavin showed he could play offense as well as defense when he knocked in a loose puck to make it 4-3 and for a moment, it seemed like the visitors might be able to at least pull out a point for their efforts, but the Leafs scored two empty-netters to close things out.
The Canes will try to lick their wounds and prepare for their next game in Montreal on Tuesday night.
