Canes allow a goal in the last minute and lose a tight one in Tampa.
The Carolina Hurricanes battled back to tie the game twice but ended up allowing the game-winning goal with just 52 seconds left as they lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-2 on Tuesday night in Tampa.
Brayden Point got loose from Jordan Staal after Staal lost a key faceoff, and buried the shot for the home team.
After the game, Rod Brind’Amour called the way they lost, a “kick in the teeth”.
Pyotr Kochetkov made several high danger saves and looked very good for the most part as he made 31 saves on the 34 shots he faced.
After the Bolts took a 1-0 lead in the first period, Andrei Svechnikov buried a backhander in the second to tie the game. The play came off a faceoff win by Staal.
Tampa Bay would score again to take the lead later in the second, but Staal would tip in a shot midway through the third to tie it up again.
It seemed the game would go to overtime, but Carolina took a breath and ended up with the regulation loss.
Next up will be a game against Toronto at the Lenovo Center on Thursday night.
