Winnipeg’s second goalie good enough to shut down Carolina
Winnipeg’s Vezina candidate goalie, Connor Hellebuyck had the night off, but the Jets got a shutout anyway from backup, Eric Comrie as they topped the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0 on Tuesday night in Winnipeg.
The home team scored one goal in each period for the victory, including one from former Hurricane, Nino Niederreiter.
The Canes had one goal on the board in the first period before a review was requested for goaltender interference by the Jets. The call on the ice was indeed reversed and the goal taken off the board when it was determined that Mikko Rantanen touched Comrie skating through the crease.
Things just got worse for Carolina the rest of the way.
The Canes managed 29 shots on goal but were outshot by one as the Jets put on 30.
For the second game in a row, Brind’Amour blamed “bad bounces” for much of the bad luck in the game. But the Jets don’t have the best record in the league by accident and out-played Carolina in this one.
The Canes will take the short flight to Minnesota and will play the Wild on Thursday night.
