The Canes allow four goals in the 2nd period as they fall to the Islanders.
The Carolina Hurricanes traveled to New York to do battle with the Islanders but came up short after a disastrous second period as they lost, 4-3 to the New Yorkers.
The Canes were outshot 12-2 in the period as they allowed four goals against.
Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the opening period off a powerplay goal by Andrei Svechnikov.
Svechnikov scored another powerplay goal in the second.
The Hurricanes got back to their game in the third period and outshot the home team 19-2, but could only manage one goal by Jesperi Kotkaniemi with 49 seconds left.
Pyotr Kochetkov made 21 saves on 25 shots as he earned the loss.
Next up, the Canes return home and will take on the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.
