RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The Carolina Hurricanes placed veteran goaltender Frederik Andersen on injured reserve on Tuesday, less than one week after he practiced with the team for the first time since undergoing knee surgery in November.
He hasn’t played in the last 37 games for the Hurricanes, dating back to late October. Anderson eventually had a procedure on his knee on Nov. 22. The Danish netminder originally received a timeline to return in 8-to-12 weeks, a window he will enter this weekend.
Prior to the injury, Anderson opened the 2024-25 season with a 3-1-0 record and 0.941 save percentage.
The 35-year-old goaltender has dealt with a series of injuries over the course of his career, especially since joining Carolina in 2021. He’s missed significant time due to concussions, an MCL tear, as well as blood-clotting issues that sidelined him for the majority of last year.
Anderson only appeared in 16 games during the 2023-24 season, but compiled a 13-2-0 record with a 1.84 goals-against average and .932 save percentage.
Between his time with the Anaheim Ducks, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Hurricanes, he’s posted a 298-128-52 career record.
As of Tuesday, there’s no definitive date for his return to the ice.
