The State Fair has packed up and there’s one more game before the Canes come back home
The Hurricanes are red hot and head back across the Canadian Border tonight to take on The Vancouver Canucks in their last game prior to coming home from the State Fair Road Trip.
The matchup will be between two hot teams on four game winning streaks. Vancouver Started the season 0-1-2, then used an overtime win against the defending champion Florida Panthers to start their streak. They come into the game after a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh Saturday Night.
The Canucks have spread out their scoring so far in the young season. The points lead is shared by three players: J.T. Miller, Brock Boeser, and Conor Garland, all with seven. Miller and Boeser have four goals to share the lead on the team. Much like the Canes with Frederick Andersen, they also have a hot goalie in Kevin Lankinen.
Lankinen has all the signs of being a massive steal for the Canucks. He’s 3-0-1 so far on the season but only carries a cap hit of $875,000. The team is playing well in front of him and he’s confident right now, a combination that usually leads to wins.
The Canes come in with Martin Necas leading the team in points with nine, coming from three goals and six assists. Shayne Gostisbehere leads the team in goals with four. In fact, all five members of the top power play unit—Necas, Gostisbehere, Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svhechnikov, and Seth Jarvis—are the top five point producers for the team right now. It shouldn’t surprise you to that the Canes right now are seventh in the league in the Power Play with 26.1%. They are also eighth in the league with a Penalty Kill of 85.2%.
One bit of intrigue before “morning” skate today at 2:30 EDT—they are in the Pacific Northwest afterall—the Canes made a roster move that indicates one of the goalies needs time off.
The #Canes have recalled goaltender Spencer Martin from the Chicago Wolves.

If the Canes stick to the goalie rotation and he’s healthy, it should be Pyotr Kochetkov between the Pipes tonight. He’s coming off his strongest performance of the season In Calgary on Thursday Night, just giving up two goals on 32 shots, and held off the strong charge by the Flames during the second half of the game to get the win. He also got a goalie assist on the empty net goal to end the game.
It should be a fun game. If you aren’t going to be in Vancouver for the action, here’s how you can catch it:
