Huge second period turns game around for Carolina
Once again, the Carolina Hurricanes fell behind 2-0 in the first period, but once again they fought back to take control of the game and eventually defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets, 7-4 on Thursday night at the Lenovo Center.
After another lackluster opening period for Carolina, the Canes dominated most of the second period to take over the game.
The Hurricanes outshot the Jackets 24-3 in that period as they lit up the scoreboard five times.
Seth Jarvis got things started with a powerplay tally just 2:48 into the period. Aho and Necas got the assists.
Eric Robinson, Jackson Blake, Sebastian Aho, and Jordan Martinook each scored within the next 9 minutes as the Canes looked like they were on a perpetual powerplay in the Columbus zone during that time span.
With the score 5-2, the Blue Jackets were able to put two quick goals of their own on the board to make it 5-4 before the end of the second.
The Hurricanes notched another goal in the third when Martin Necas completed a hustle play by digging out the puck and finding Jesperi Kotkaniemi who scored his 4rth goal in the past three games.
Jarvis would score an empty-netter to close it out as he wrapped up a four point night, the first of his career.
He now leads the team with 18 goals.
Necas leads the team with 55 points.
Frederik Andersen earned his 300th career win and made 18 saves on the 22 shots he faced.
Shayne Gostisbehere played even though he is a new father and was mobbed during the storm surge.
Next up, the Canes will travel to New York to play the Islanders and the Rangers.
