Hall nets a hat trick and Andersen shines in Carolina victory
The Carolina Hurricanes finished their road trip on a positive note as they defeated the Anaheim Ducks, 5-2 on Sunday night at the Honda Center.
Taylor Hall scored his first hat trick as a Hurricane to lead Carolina. Hall has played very well since he was acquired and it certainly looks like he should be getting a new contract offer with the Canes.
Also, Mark Jankowski scored once again now giving him six goals in seven games played with Carolina. He was acquired from Nashville in exchange for a 5th round draft pick on trade deadline day.
Frederik Andersen made 35 saves on 37 shots, some of them spectacular, and earned his fifth straight win.
After a scoreless first period, Jankowski got things started in the second with a beautiful tip in as he extended his reach from behind the goal line.
The Ducks tied things up later in the period but Jordan Martinook knocked in a rebound to give the Canes a lead they would not relinquish.
To start off the third period, Taylor Hall would score his first off a nice play by Jackson Blake. It was a powerplay goal for the Canes.
With three minutes and change left in the game, Trevor Zegras would give the home team hope when he scored.
But inside a minute of that goal, Hall would score again to give Carolina back their two goal lead.
Hall would complete his hat trick with a nifty empty net goal to end the game.
The Carolina penalty kill was great in this game and did not allow a goal in six tries. The powerplay was one for three.
The Hurricanes will return home for a game against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night.
