Kotkaniemi shines as Carolina wins sixth straight game
The Carolina Hurricanes won their sixth game in a row as they defeated the Detroit Red Wings, 4-2 on Friday night at the Lenovo Center.
The home team pretty much controlled the first period and dominated puck possession time, but could not solve goalie Petr Mrazek.
Toward the end of the period, Alex DeBrincat beat Frederik Andersen with a high shot in the corner of the net and the period ended with the visitors ahead, 1-0.
The Canes came back with a flurry of goals in the second period.
Just 22 seconds in, Jesperi Kotkaniemi fired a shot on net that hit Taylor Hall and the puck found its way into the net to tie things up at, 1-1.
About five minutes later, Kotkaniemi went back to work and found Jack Roslovic at the doorstep and number 96 made no mistake to give Carolina the one goal lead.
A bit later, Jalen Chatfield fired in a shot to give the Canes a 3-1 lead. It was his sixth goal of the season.
The Red Wings pushed back in the third period and scored again to make things close, but Eric Robinson would score on a long empty net chance to close out the scoring.
Andersen made 24 saves on 26 shots to earn the win.
The Canes are now 31-0-3 when leading after two periods.
Here is a positive quote from Kotkaniemi post game –
“It’s a beautiful city and good teammates here. What could be better?”
