Carolina wins ninth straight at home in comeback victory against the Rangers.
The Carolina Hurricanes were entering a tough part of their season against top competition and were without their top two goalies, but once again they rose to the occasion as they defeated the New York Rangers, 4-3, Wednesday night at the Lenovo Center.
Spencer Martin made 19 saves on 22 shots to earn the win for the home team.
The Canes jumped out to a 1-0 lead about five minutes into the game when Jack Drury rifled a tight angled shot past Igor Shesterkin.
Martin Necas made the perfect feed and the assist put him into sole possession of the NHL scoring lead.
The Rangers would tie the score later in the period but Seth Jarvis scored on the powerplay just one minute and change into the second. Once again, Necas had a beautiful feed for the setup.
The forward now has 37 points in 22 games this season.
New York did not give up and would take a 3-2 lead before the end of the second but the Canes could not be stopped in the third.
Midway through the final period, Jesperi Kotkaniemi stuffed in a wrap-around chance to tie the score.
Shortly after, rookie Jackson Blake scored a powerplay tally for the game-winner.
The Canes held on the rest of the way to earn their ninth straight win at home.
Next up will be an afternoon matchup against the Florida Panthers on Friday.
