Seth Jarvis scored twice and Pyotr Kochetkov came up big in Carolina win
The Carolina Hurricanes got two key goals from Seth Jarvis and Pyotr Kochetkov made 29 saves on 31 shots as the Canes defeated the Las Vegas Golden Knights, 3-2 on Friday night at the Lenovo Center.
Carolina got off to a slow start as the Knights spent a lot of time in home team’s zone in the opening period. They outshot the Canes 13-7 in that period, but Carolina would find their game in the second.
After falling behind 1-0 in the ensuing period, it looked like Carolina might be in trouble when Vegas was awarded a penalty shot midway through the period.
Kochetkov made the save and two minutes and change later, Jordan Martinook sent a nice pass to Jarvis in front of the net. The winger kicked the puck to his forehand and put the puck past goalie Adin Hill for the first time this night, to tie it up.
Just 46 seconds into the third, Jackson Blake got credit for his 10th of the season when his shot bounced in off of Noah Hanifin, to give the Canes a 2-1 lead.
About five minutes later, Jordan Staal and Jarvis broke in with an odd-man rush. Staal made a perfect pass and Jarvis buried it, to make the score, 3-1.
Vegas would make it interesting by scoring a powerplay goal midway through the period, but the Hurricanes would keep them off the board the rest of the way.
The Canes are now just one point behind second place New Jersey, with one game in hand.
Next up is a game in Chicago on Monday night.
