Carolina’s team defense shut down the Canucks
Don’t look now, but the Carolina Hurricanes have a two game winning streak!
Team defense stood up and only allowed 14 shots on goal for the game and goalie Dustin Tokarski earned his first shutout since 2022 as the Canes defeated the Vancouver Canucks, 2-0 on Friday night at the Lenovo Center.
Tokarski now has a 3-1 record since his recall from Chicago.
The Canes never allowed more than five shots on goal in any period and had a total of 27 blocked shots in the contest. Sean Walker led the way with five.
Jordan Staal stayed red hot and he scored his fifth goal in the last three games to give his team a 1-0 lead later in the first period. He has a total of nine goals now for the season.
Just a minute and change into the second, Andrei Svechnikov made a power move to the front of the net and scored to make it 2-0. That was number 14 of the season for the Russian winger.
The rest of the game was scoreless as Carolina was able to shut down the struggling Canucks, who now have lost four in a row.
There was word after the game that Jordan Martinook might be injured and would be checked out. There were no specifics given.
Next up is a “special” game against the Ducks on Sunday where the Hurricanes will have a pregame ceremony to honor Eric Staal.
