The Canes end their losing streak and scoring slump against Utah
The Carolina Hurricanes scored more than double the goals that they scored in their last three loses as they exploded to defeat the Utah Hockey Club, 7-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Lenovo Center.
With the score tied 1-1 after the first period, the Canes scored four times in the second to take over the game, including a rare powerplay goal.
Jalen Chatfield opened the scoring when he broke in with Jordan Staal midway through the first.
Seth Jarvis scored a powerplay goal to open the second.
Sebastian Aho then scored unassisted and the goal barrage continued.
After Clayton Keller broke in alone for Utah, Aho would score a shortie off an assist by, guess who, Seth Jarvis. They have to be the most dangerous duo in the league while playing short-handed.
Jarvis would score again just before the end of the period giving him 22 goals for the season. Aho now has 20.
In the third, Martinook and Roslovic closed out the scoring.
Jarvis finished the game with four points and Aho had three.
Pyotr Kochetkov made 36 saves on the 39 shots he faced.
Mikko Rantanen had the night off, reportedly for a sore knee. Brind’Amour said the injury was not serious.
The Canes now have a two week break for the Four Nations Tournament. We will have more about that later.
