The Canes lose their first extra-time game in a shootout.
The Carolina Hurricanes closed out their three game road trip with a hard fought 5-4 shoot out loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night.
After a back and forth game, the Canes were holding onto a one goal late into the game but the Jackets tied it with about a minute left.
After a scoreless overtime, Sean Monahan scored the only goal in the shootout to earn the win for the home team.
What could be worse news for Carolina is that goalie Pyotr Kochetkov was injured and had to leave the game late. With Fred Andersen already out for weeks, the Canes cannot afford to lose another goalie to injury.
There was no update on his status after the game.
Roslovic, Chatfield, Aho, and Blake had the goals for Carolina.
The team’s recap is here.
