The Carolina eight game winning streak is snapped in Colorado on Saturday night.
The Carolina Hurricanes were cruising along with a 2-0 lead over Colorado and had a powerplay chance to extend their lead midway through the second period, but Cale Makar intercepted a pass, skated past the Canes, then blasted a shot past Spencer Martin.
The wheels then fell off a bit for the visitors as the Avs would end up scoring five times in that period.
Nathan MacKinnon looked like the superstar that he is as he seemed unstoppable during this time frame. He ended up with a four point night and was +3.
Spencer Martin was in net for the Canes and made 23 saves on 28 shots in his first game this season.
Carolina did not give up in the third though as Jordan Martinook scored his second of the game off a nice pass by Martin Necas to bring Carolina within a goal at 5-4, but they were unable to get another one.
The Avs scored into an empty net to finish the scoring.
The Canes bench challenged one goal in the second when MacKinnon’s skate hit Martin’s in the blue paint, but the challenge was not confirmed. Brind’Amour was upset about it after the game, calling the decision the difference in the game.
Things don’t get any easier as Carolina will travel to Vegas for a game against the Golden Knights on Monday night.
Notes:
- Brind’Amour seemingly shuffled the lines at will this night.
- Svechnikov was -3 while several others were -2, including Aho and Jarvis.
- Martin Necas continued his scoring streak which now is at 9 games. He had a goal and an assist. He now has 23 points in just 13 games.
- MacKinnon led all skaters with seven shots on goal. He played 26:17 for the game which also led both teams.
