CHARLOTTE (CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — Spectrum Center and N.C. State Athletics are among the inaugural 10 recipients of Front Office Sports’ inaugural Most Sustainable Award.
The list was created in collaboration with Sports Innovation Lab to rank sports organizations and properties leveraging their reach, influence and resources to safeguard the planet, the Hornets said.
“We’re honored to be recognized by Front Office Sports for our sustainability efforts,” Hornets Sports & Entertainment Executive Vice President & Spectrum Center General Manager Donna Julian said. “We’re highly dedicated to promoting environmental awareness not only within our arena but also among fans in our community and across the Carolinas. This continues to be a key focus during our RE!magine Spectrum Center arena renovation project taking place this summer and next summer.”
As part of the Spectrum Center upgrades, which are underway, there will be more gathering areas, 2,500 more lower-level seats and enhancements to The Nest fan section.
Organizations across the industry submitted applications and responded to questions about ways they keep the planet safe including water conservation, carbon and greenhouse gas reduction, and measurement of impact and goal-setting.
The organizations and properties that showed exceptional innovation and a commitment to a greener legacy for sports were selected for the award.
The other eight recipients include Gillette Stadium, GOAL (Green Operations & Advanced Leadership), Liverpool FC, Moda Center, N.C. State Athletics, SailGP, UBS Arena, WM and the World Surf League.
