Roughly 24 hours after retiring from the NBA, former All-Star guard Kemba Walker landed a new gig.
Walker will join the coaching staff for the Charlotte Hornets, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. He’ll help out Charles Lee’s staff as a player enhancement coach.
It’s only fitting that Walker returns to the Hornets. The best years of his career were in Charlotte.
In eight seasons in Charlotte, the former UConn star averaged 19.8 points and 5.5 assists per game. He was easily one of the most productive players in the league on a nightly basis.
Believe it or not, Walker finished his career with the Hornets as their all-time leader in points, 3-pointers and minutes played.
In 2019, Walker signed a deal with the Boston Celtics. Unfortunately, injuries derailed the final years of his career. He also spent time on the New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks before retiring.
“I know I couldn’t have made it to this point without my incredible support system around me,” Walker said. “There are so many people to thank — my mom, dad and entire family, my teammates who have become family, and the coaches who believed in me and brought out the best in me.”
Hopefully, Walker’s transition from player to coach is a smooth one.
