Crazy moments in the NBA are bound to happen, including everything from freak gruesome injuries to fights that become stadium-wide brawls.
Eventually, players speak about those tales in documentaries with regret and solemn. But former player (and party boy) Lou William‘s most WTF moment on the court actually stems from him having a bit too much fun the night before a game.
Lou William is among the many former athletes who’ve created their own podcast. On a recent episode of his The Underground Lounge with cohost Spank Horton, he got honest about his time with the Los Angeles Clippers when they were in town to play the New York Knicks. He just had to take advantage of the nightlife.
“We had a noon game in New York. My whole sh-t in New York – I go to a little lounge, have me a couple of drinks, and then go and get back to the room,” he begins. “This particular night, it’s like 10:30, I’m about to walk out of the door. A wave of women walked in. I got a little carried away.”
However, his plan was just to get tipsy, but before he knew it, the club was closing, and he had to step onto the court in just a few hours while drunk.
“I kept partying, f-cked around, I look around, they’re turning the lights on and I’m still in that b-tch. I got to the arena, I’m like ‘F-ck, I’m drunk as hell’. Mind y’all, I come off the bench, so I got about eight minutes to get my sh-t together,” he remembers. “Doc Rivers called my number. I’m in the game, I turn the ball over twice immediately.”

Williams was split between fessing up to getting too lit and playing through it but decided to tell Doc Rivers, fully willing to pay whatever fine the NBA gave him for being intoxicated during a game. However, instead of yelling at him and banishing him to the end of the bench, Coach Rivers made him play through it because the team needed him.
“That n***a Doc looked me square in my eyes and said, ‘N-gga, you’re playing the whole 2nd quarter because I need you to sweat that sh*t out. Because I’m going to need you in the 4th quarter’. I had 25 in the 4th quarter.”
Internet sleuths discovered the actual game happened in 2019, and Lou Will dropped 29 points, helping the Clippers beat the Knicks 122-110.
