Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a three-year, $50 million sign-and-trade with the Golden State Warriors facilitating. The Charlotte Hornets will acquire Josh Green from the Mavericks as part of the trade for two future second round picks.
The Warriors will acquire two second round picks and a traded player exception just under $16 million from the Mavericks. The picks will be the Mavericks’ own second round selection in 2031 and the least favorable second rounder in 2025 between the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets.
Thompson was a first round pick by the Warriors in 2011 and they went on to win four titles together. Thompson, who is represented by Greg Lawrence, is coming off a five-year, $190 million contract agreed upon in 2019 following his ACL tear in Game 6 of The Finals. In 77 games last season, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 38.7 percent on three-pointers.
Thompson also strongly considered the Los Angeles Lakers. Thompson had four-year offers for more money elsewhere, but taking less was reportedly offset by an opportunity to win a title with Dallas and the difference in state income taxes.
