The Charlotte Hornets are expected to hire Kenny Atkinson as their next head coach. Atkinson is currently working as an assistant coach under Steve Kerr with the Golden State Warriors. The Hornets fired former coach James Borrego following a loss in the 2022 Play-In Tournament.
Atkinson was previously the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. In four-plus seasons with the Nets, Atkinson compiled a 118-190 record. He took over while the Nets were rebuilding and led the team to the postseason in 2019. He was dismissed late in the 2019-20 season.
Atkinson has also worked for the New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks, LA Clippers, in addition to the Warriors, as an assistant coach. He’s well-regarded for his skill in player development and working with young rosters.
