CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams will miss training camp after an injury, the team announced Friday night.
Williams reportedly suffered a strained tendon in his left foot during an offseason workout Thursday. The 7-foot Duke product will be sidelined when the team heads to Durham for training camp and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
The preseason schedule begins Oct. 6 at home against the Knicks. The Hornets are on the road for training camp while Spectrum Center is undergoing renovations.
Williams, the 15th overall selection in the 2022 NBA Draft, appeared in just 19 games last year, before a season-ending back injury that led to a devastating losing streak.
Prior to that injury, he was averaging 12.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 blocks per game, numbers that all improved from his rookie season.
