The Charlotte Hornets are continuing to explore the trade market for Gordon Hayward. Two complicating factors in finding a deal are Hayward’s $31.5 million contracts, and his inability to stay healthy. Hayward has missed Charlotte’s last 22 games due to a strained calf.
If the Hornets are unable to find a trade for Hayward, it’s unlikely the 33-year-old forward will pursue a buyout. Hayward is more likely to see his contract expire with Charlotte, and then see if a new deal, with the Hornets or via sign-and-trade, can be worked using his Bird Rights.
