CHARLOTTE (CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — The Charlotte Hornets are trading Terry Rozier to the Miami Heat in exchange for Kyle Lowry and a 2027 first-round pick, CSL confirmed.
The team says the 2027 first-round pick is lottery-protected and would convert to an unprotected 2028 first-round pick if it doesn’t convey.
“The acquisition of a future first-round pick provides us an asset as we look to build long-term sustainable success around our young core of talented players,” Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak said. “We believe adding this future pick and the additional financial flexibility from this trade will be beneficial as we continue to build our team moving forward.”
Rozier has been with the Hornets since 2019. He’s started all 30 games he’s played this season and is averaging 23.2 points per game.
Lowry, in his 18th NBA season, is averaging just 8.2 points per game this season. He’s been in Miami since 2021 and helped the team reach the NBA Finals in the 2022-23 season.
The Hornets, 10-31, are the third-worst team in the Eastern Conference. The move comes about two weeks ahead of the NBA’s Feb. 8 trade deadline.
Sources tell CSL the Hornets may not be done trading this season and will look to add future assets ahead of the deadline.
The Hornets’ next game is Wednesday night against the Detroit Pistons.
