Despite the exceedingly long wait, the next NBA season is nearly upon us. Next thing you know, we will be reading stories about training camps from the different teams.
In the meantime, let’s review the schedule of teams in the Southeast Division and see if anything stands out. With nearly six months of games on the docket, unique side stories will lurk around.
Atlanta Hawks
Bogdan Bogdanovic and the Hawks could be in Colorado on the last day of the year since they’ll be playing the Denver Nuggets on New Year’s Day. If Nikola Jokic knows about this, he could invite his fellow Serbian for New Year’s Eve dinner. Surely Bogdanovic would be a welcome guest in the Jokic residence.

Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets have a nine-game home stand from Jan. 24 to Feb. 7. That is a two-week stretch that they will have to savor because a lengthy road trip is up next. While eight consecutive road games can feel quite long, this one is going to feel even longer because the All-Star Break will be wedged in between.
Miami Heat
If you’re Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nov. 2 should be a special date because of the NBA game in Mexico. The NBA will classify this one as a home game for the Washington Wizards, but it won’t feel that way. Remember, Miami’s roster includes Jaquez, who is of Mexican descent.
Orlando Magic
We will see the Magic play five road games in eight days during the week that connects November and December. That sounds tough at first, but a quick look will change your mind. With two games against the New York Knicks, one against the Brooklyn Nets, and two in Philadelphia, the Magic will really only have two stops: the first being the New York area, followed by a two-game stay in Philadelphia.
Washington Wizards
Alex Sarr will have quite a start to his career. In his first 10 games, the second pick in the NBA Draft will meet the defending champs when they open the season against the Boston Celtics. He also faces the latest dynasty (Golden State Warriors) several games later.
Sarr will also battle a bunch of streaky scorers like Ja Morant, Donovan Mitchell, and the improving Jalen Green. Additionally, he will put his skills to the ultimate test when he faces the last three No. 1 picks in Zaccharie Risacher, Victor Wembanyama, and Paolo Banchero.
