There’s a new top team in college baseball and for the first time in what seems like forever, it’s not an SEC team.
D1Baseball.com released their new top 25 poll on Monday and for the first time since the preseason, LSU has been dethroned as the top team. Taking their place as the No. 1 team in the country is Wake Forest, who have been waiting in the wings for months to take the Tigers’ place.
LSU suffered back-to-back losses to Auburn over the weekend, falling to second in the SEC West behind rival Arkansas in the process. Speaking of Arkansas, they rose from No. 6 to No. 3 just behind LSU and swapping places with South Carolina in the process.

As you can see, the SEC still basically runs college baseball even if they don’t have a team in that coveted top spot. LSU, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Florida gives them half of the top 10 teams while Kentucky and Tennessee give them a grand total of seven top 25 teams.
The ACC sits behind the SEC with seven top 25 teams.
Will the SEC wind up with another national championship-winning team, or is this the year that Wake Forest wins it all?
