Xavier Legette finally got his chance to shine this past season for South Carolina, and he didn’t disappoint.
Legette earned All-SEC honors in 2023 by hauling in 71 passes for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns. Despite being 6-foot-1 and over 220 pounds, he can run a 4.39 in the 40-yard dash.
Over the past few months, scouts have raved about Legette’s ability to make closely contested catches. His acceleration in the open field is also worth noting for a wide receiver of his stature.
On behalf of with Six Star Pro Nutrition, we caught up with Xavier Legette to discuss his career at South Carolina and preparation for the NFL Draft.
Six Star Pro Nutrition has launched its Whey Protein Plus Ready-to-Drink protein shake in Kellogg’s Froot Loops flavor.
The Spun: How has this draft process been for you and has it sunk in yet that we’re a couple of days away from hearing your name called?
Xavier Legette: No, it hasn’t hit me yet. But I got to understand that I’m going to, though. I’m just waiting to hear my name called.
The Spun: Can you tell us about your work with Six Star Pro Nutrition and what that collaboration has been like?
XL: It’s great for my recovery. It really helps my body during this process.
The Spun: College football has changed a lot because of the transfer portal and NIL. You stayed all five years at South Carolina and worked your way from an elite returner to an elite wideout. Did you ever have any doubts about your future?
XL: It was never a doubt for me because the previous years I was dealing with injuries. I had thoughts about leaving, but everything I wanted and needed was at South Carolina.

The Spun: Was there an SEC rivalry during your time at South Carolina that was far more intense than every other matchup?
XL: I would say every time we played Georgia, the intensity level went up. We wanted to beat those guys so bad.
The Spun: Speaking of South Carolina, I wanted to ask about your quarterback, Spencer Rattler. What was your connection like?
XL: Having Spencer at the program was great. We needed someone like him. He’s so talkative no the field, which helps us. He also helps us visualize stuff and get a better understanding of what he’s seeing from the quarterback position.
The Spun: I’ve seen you compared to AJ Brown, Deebo Samuel, Kenny Britt, DK Metcalf. With that said, what’s the ultimate goal for your rookie season?
XL: I always tell folks that they try to compare me to guys, but I want to lead by my own example. But to be compared with those guys, that means I’m doing something right. I really want to have a great rookie season so I can have longevity in this league.
The Spun: Which wide receivers do you study the most?
XL: Odell Beckham, A.J. Brown, Keenan Allen, Davante Adams and Deebo Samuel. I like watching bigger-bodied receivers so I can study their tendencies.
Xavier Legette is a 6-1, 220-lb WR with some incredible catches on his 2023 film. In his only “productive” season at SC, Legette did average nearly 15 ypc and score 15 TD’s in his career.

The Spun: You’ve said the Panthers met with you several times. Have you thought about the possibility of playing close to home?
XL: For sure. Being close to home would make it way easier for my family to visit me. That would be the best thing about me playing close to home. They can just drive up and be ready to go.
The Spun: Is there an aspect of your game that you want to improve?
XL: I’d say my route-running on curls and comebacks. If I can be a bit more detailed on those things, I’ll take my game to another level.
The Spun: What are your plans for the NFL Draft?
XL: I’m just going to have my family with me. I don’t want to have anything too big. I just want to celebrate with my family because they helped guide me here.
