The women’s game is reportedly expected to set even more records with tonight’s national championship between South Carolina and Iowa.
Per Jon Lewis of Sports Media Watch, the Caitlin Clark effect should continue to raise the bar along with an undefeated Gamecocks team.
Predicting, “In the Clark era, even the most generous viewership predictions have ended up falling well short of reality. So I decided to go big this time — over 24 million. I have the men’s title game at around 16 million.”
This college hoops season was the first where the women regularly drew bigger audiences than the men thanks in large part to the star power on the women’s side.
Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, JuJu Watkins, Paige Bueckers and coaches like Dawn Staley and Kim Mulkey have brought a lot of attention to women’s college basketball with their play-styles and respective personalities.
When it comes to the men there really hasn’t been that this year.
Purdue’s Zach Edey is certainly a dominant force but the strongest program over the last two years has been UConn; a team that prides itself on its strength as a collective.
Iowa and South Carolina tip-off off at 3 PM ET on Sunday as SC attempts to finish off its perfect season with 37-0 record and Clark looks to cement herself in the GOAT conversation with a title.
