The South Carolina women’s basketball team will begin its quest for a national title his Friday against Presbyterian. Let’s just say Dawn Staley’s squad will be heavily favored for this matchup.
Although it sounds too absurd to be true, South Carolina is a 54.5-point favorite over Presbyterian.
While there’s no denying that is an eye-opening spread, it’s important to note that South Carolina defeated Presbyterian earlier this season by a wild score of 99-29. MiLaysia Fulwiley, Tessa Johnson, Sakima Walker, Ashlyn Watkins, Bree Hall, Chloe Kitts and Kamilla Cardoso all reached double digits in the scoring department.
Cardoso won’t be active for this Friday’s game due to her role in the LSU-South Carolina skirmish on March 10. That shouldn’t change the outcome, though.
ESPN’s matchup predictor gives South Carolina a 99 percent chance of advancing to the next round.
If Presbyterian finds a way to defeat South Carolina, it’d be the greatest upset in the history of the sport. That being said, fans are probably more concerned over whether or not the Gamecocks will cover the massive spread.
Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. ET on ESPN.
