Report: Frontrunner Emerging For 5-Star QB Transfer Malachi Nelson

From one USC to potentially another, it sounds like former five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson has some interest in becoming a Gamecock.

According to SportsTalk Media Network: “Southern Cal transfer QB Malachi Nelson tells us he has interest in Gamecocks. Said he’s impressed by what they’ve done developing quarterbacks.”

Nelson was the 11th-ranked player in the nation coming out of high school in 2023 after leading Los Alamitos’ offense to success behind 2,898 yards and 37 total touchdowns to just four interceptions.

Fans were a bit surprised on social media.

“Wait what lol?” a user asked. “Even the biased hater in me can acknowledge Beamer has done some impressive things. QB development isn’t one of em.”

“If he thinks it’s impressive what they have done wait until he hears about Lincoln Reilly’s pedigree…..” another said. “oh wait.”

“That last line made me chuckle,” a fan replied.

“Either this is complete nonsense or that gamecock nil talking.”

Nelson figures to draw interest from a number of programs across the country. Could Columbia be in the cards?
