The college football community received heartbreaking news this Thursday. Former South Carolina assistant coach Brad Lawing passed away at the age of 65.
South Carolina’s football team released a statement on Lawing’s death.
“Our hearts are broken hearing this terrible news,” the program said. “Thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of a tremendous man and coach.”
Lawing coached at South Carolina from 1989-1998 and 2006-2012. He helped produce a ton of defensive stars alongside Steve Spurrier.
As you’d expect, South Carolina fans are saddened by this Thursday’s news.
Former FSU assistant too. Seminole great DeMarcus Walker gave Lawing a lot of credit for his development and success. Prayers to the family. May he rest in peace. https://t.co/k9UQ0dcWHZ

“Hate to hear that,” a fan tweeted. “IMO He was one of, if not the best DLine coach to wear garnet N black. Back when practices were open I enjoyed listening to him light a fire under that DLine.”

In addition to his work at South Carolina, Lawing spent time at Florida State and Michigan State.
Our thoughts are with Lawing’s family during this difficult time.
