For the second week in a row, an Alabama game that most fans had written off days before it started came down to the wire – and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was glued to his TV for the ending.
After suffering a stunning loss to lowly Vanderbilt last week, the Crimson Tide returned to Tuscaloosa to welcome in the unranked South Carolina Gamecocks. But much like last week, the Tide struggled to put away their SEC rivals. After taking a 14-0 lead in the second quarter, South Carolina reeled off 19 straight points while Alabama was held scoreless until early in the fourth quarter.
The Crimson Tide managed to score 13 points in the fourth to take the lead but Carolina would not go away quietly.
Through it all – from the missed Gamecocks field goal to the missed two-point conversion to the onsides kick to the game-sealing interception – Mahomes was watching and had just one thing to say:
“Yo What is happening,” he wrote, adding some laughing emojis.
Fans found the three-time Super Bowl MVP’s statement pretty darn relatable.
“Mahomes reaction was that of everyone who was watching the Bama/SC game,” one user replied.
“Don’t question it. We’re as surprised as you are,” wrote another.
“I know! Iowa scored 40 points!?” a third joked.
Alabama went on to win the game 27-25.
