Pretty exciting matchup for South Carolina.
After waiting out multiple possibilities on a suspenseful postseason Sunday, the South Carolina Gamecocks learned their bowl fate, drawing a spot in Jacksonville’s Gator Bowl to meet Notre Dame.
Both South Carolina and the Fighting Irish finished 8-4, with each team notching signature wins over Clemson. The Irish also bagged big wins over North Carolina and Syracuse. While current starting quarterback Greg Pyne has entered the transfer portal and is unlikely to play in the bowl, Notre Dame’s offense still boasts a star tight end in Michael Mayer, who is in the running for the position’s coveted Mackey Award.
The Gamecocks have played in the Gator Bowl four times previously, most recently in 1984, but have never won.
The Gator Bowl will kick off on Friday, Dec. 30, at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN.
