South Carolina fans are in for a treat this Saturday afternoon, as Kamilla Cardoso is on track to make her WNBA debut for the Chicago Sky. She’ll take on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
Cardoso, a 6-foot-7 center, was selected by the Sky with the No. 3 pick in the WNBA Draft. The two-time NCAA champion can be such a disruptive player for opposing teams due to her size.
During her final season of college hoops, Cardoso averaged 14.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. The Gamecocks wouldn’t have won it all without her, that’s for sure.
Now, Cardoso will have an opportunity to prove that she can be a dominant force at the pro level. It might take time for her to adjust to the WNBA’s physicality, but Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon is amped up to have her in the rotation moving forward.
“We’re super excited to have her on the court,” Weatherspoon said. “She’s excited to be back with a big smile on her face, and she puts a big smile on our face just because she’s out there and she’s pain free. That’s the most important thing. So we’re looking forward to having her back out there.”
Cardoso will get to clash with her former South Carolina teammate, Aliyah Boston, this Saturday afternoon.
Tipoff for the Sky-Fever game is at 12 p.m. ET. It’ll be televised on ESPN.
