Two weeks after being let go by the Buffalo Bills, longtime NFL assistant and former Alabama head coach Mike Shula has found a new job.
South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains told reporters that Shula was recently added to the team’s staff in an analyst role. Details are scarce, but we can ascertain Shula will be doing something on the offensive side of the ball.
Shula spent the last two seasons as a senior offensive assistant in Buffalo after two years as the quarterbacks coach of the Denver Broncos and another two campaigns in the same role with the New York Giants.
From 2013-17, Shula was the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers. In 2015, he helped quarterback Cam Newton win the MVP Award and lead the Panthers to a 15-1 regular season and trip to Super Bowl 50.
Prior to that, Shula was the quarterbacks coach in Carolina from 2011-12 after holding the same position with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2007-10.
Before jumping to the NFL in 2007, Shula spent four seasons as the head coach at his alma mater Alabama. The Crimson Tide went 26-23 under the former Alabama quarterback, although 16 of those victories were eventually vacated by the NCAA.
The son of legendary NFL head coach Don Shula, Mike Shula started his coaching career with 15 seasons as an assistant in the NFL, including four as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator from 1996-99.
