South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley treats the local media a bit differently than other head coaches.
She gives special access to local reporters and will always have time to answer their questions.
“She will always make time for whoever’s asking for a piece of her time. Even though these days, there are more and more people who are asking,” South Carolina reporter David Cloninger told Margaret Fleming of Front Office Sports.
This has people loving Staley even more after she just led South Carolina to a national title.
“More like her please,” one tweet read.
“The access we get to @GamecockWBB is truly unlike any program I’ve ever covered. Local media follows this team from the start to the very end and knows them better than anyone,” another tweet read.
“Local media with women’s sports teams take note. it’s time to level up,” another tweet read.
“Lot of respect for how much Dawn appreciates local media,” another tweet read.
“I’ve been around a lot of coaches who I feel like don’t like the local media because we know too much about their team and their inner workings. Because we notice things others wouldn’t. Dawn Staley embraces that. This woman is the WOMAN,” another tweet read.
Staley more than gets it and it’s time for others to follow suit.
