ESPN’s Molly McGrath was pretty disgusted by the impact Spencer Rattler’s appearance on “QB1” reportedly had on his draft stock.
During Saturday’s NFL Network coverage for Rounds 4-7, Ian Rapoport revealed how the South Carolina QB was viewed negatively by teams who watched him on the Netflix series while he was in high school.
This is kind of weird to say, honestly. Spencer Rattler did a reality show in high school, it was called “QB1: Beyond the Lights.” It did not make him look great. And it is unbelievable how many different teams mentioned to me the image of him in that show and how they can’t get it out of their heads.
This really bothered McGrath who took to social media with this message:
“I hate this so much,” she said. “Spencer has changed so much since high school and that experience made him a more self-aware, humble person. I guarantee 99% of people would regret how they looked if cameras followed them around in high school. Spencer is a good guy, great leader, and this whole narrative is BS.”
Rattler turned his career around with the Gamecocks after some early struggles at Oklahoma.
It’s sad that he’s still being viewed through the lens of when he was a teenager but it should only serve as extra motivation to show decision-makers around the league he’s not that and hasn’t been for a long time.
