ESPN’s Elle Duncan was at Colonial Life Arena this Tuesday to watch the South Carolina women’s basketball team host a scrimmage against a group of men.
Duncan couldn’t help but ask South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley why her squad was going up against men.
“I’m going to be the ignorant one. I’m going to address the elephant in the room,” Duncan said. “Who are these dudes?”
Of course, Staley explained why her team was practicing against “The Highlighters” on national television.
“These are The Highlighters,” Staley told Duncan. “They’re the main reason why we’re as successful as we are. They’re students, they’re male practice players. They come here, they’re committed. We win championships, they got rings. Several of them got a national championship ring for 2022. They sacrifice just as much as our players.”
Dawn Staley just introduced ‘The Highlighters’ on national TV, a group of men who scrimmage her ladies.

Scrimmages like this certainly help South Carolina’s team adjust to a faster pace.
South Carolina will enter the 2023-24 season as one of the top 10 teams in the country.
