Los Angeles Sparks rookie forward Cameron Brink suffered a devastating injury Tuesday night, tearing the ACL in her left knee.
The injury interrupts what was a strong start to Brink’s WNBA career. She’ll miss the rest of the 2024 season, as well as the 3×3 competition at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley is one of the many people who sent well-wishes to the young rising star after her diagnosis became public.
“Prayers up Cam! Know your basketball family want nothing but for you to get healed up and back out there! Love!” Staley wrote on X/Twitter.
In 15 games this season, Brink posted averages of 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per appearance.
The No. 2 overall pick set a career-high with 21 points in a loss to the Dallas Wings on May 26, and recorded her first-ever double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) against the same team on June 7.
Brink tore her ACL in the first quarter of Tuesday night’s 79-70 loss to the Connecticut Sun. The 6-foot-4 frontcourt standout was driving to the basket when she slipped and landed awkwardly.
Brink was in clear pain and had to be helped off the court to the bench area. From there, she tried to walk back to the locker room under her own power, but ultimately had to be carried.
