We’re five weeks away from the start of the 2023 college football season but ESPN College GameDay has already decided where they’re heading to kick things off.
On Monday, College GameDay announced that it is heading to Charlotte, North Carolina for the big Duke’s Mayo Classic game between Carolina rivals UNC and South Carolina.
“WE’RE COMING TO THE QUEEN CITY! See you Week 1 in Charlotte for a battle of the Carolinas,” the show announced on Twitter.
This will be the fourth straight time that a UNC-South Carolina game will be held at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

The UNC-South Carolina rivalry dates back over 120 years with UNC boasting a 35-20-4 edge over their cross-state foes. But South Carolina have dominated the series since the late-60s, winning 13 of their last 20 meetings.
The last meeting between the two was in the 2021 Duke’s Mayo Bowl, which saw the two teams face off in a bowl game for the first time in the history of the rivalry.
Which of the two sides will come out on top in Week 1 this year?
