CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — North Carolina guard Seth Trimble is entering the transfer portal, according to reports.
The 6’3″ sophomore announced his decision Tuesday, according to Inside Carolina.
Trimble posted a photo collage on Instagram, along with three paragraphs expressing his gratitude to the UNC coaching staff, program and his teammates while also explaining his choice.
“To the fans of North Carolina, I sit with tears of joy, thankful for the blessings and memories this university has given me. It’s been a fun ride here and the support and opportunities I’ve been given from this family have blessed me more than I can express gratitude for,” Trimble wrote. “I’ve made the decision to enter the transfer portal as I feel this is the best step for me moving forward. Tar Heel Family, I will love you for the rest of my life.”
Trimble served as a backup during both his seasons in Chapel Hill, first to the dynamic duo of RJ Davis and Caleb Love, and this season to the combo of Davis and 5-star recruit Elliot Cadeau.
The guard from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, played in all 35 games for UNC this season, starting in one. He scored a season high of 12 points against Florida State on March 14 in the ACC Tournament and played a season high 25 minutes against Arkansas on November 24 in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas.
Known for his athleticism and tenacious defense, Trimble was often called on by UNC head coach Hubert Davis to lock down the opposing team’s toughest perimeter player. Offensively, he averaged 5.2 points per game this past season, shooting 47 percent from the field and 42 percent from beyond the three-point line.
Trimble is the younger brother of former UNC player JP Tokoto, who played for the Tar Heels from 2012-2015.
