CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — The first spring football practices in Chapel Hill under new North Carolina head football coach Bill Belichick are about to wrap up.
Though the elder Belichick is in charge of the whole team, one of his sons will actually be making more money than him, according to data from the UNC System salary database.
While Bill Belichick’s base salary for next season is listed as $1 million, his son Steve — the new defensive coordinator and linebackers coach — is set to make $1.3 million. Offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, a holdover from Mack Brown’s staff who served as interim head coach after Brown was fired, will be making $1.15 million.
All three will be making less than general manager Michael Lombardi, who at $1.5 million will have the highest base salary of anyone on the football staff.
