ROLESVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A homegrown high school football star out of the Triangle seems to be taking his talents to Chapel Hill for his college career.
Rolesville High School junior defensive end Zavion Griffin-Haynes has committed to North Carolina, he announced through social media on Sunday.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound edge defender chose the Tar Heels over offers from Ohio State, North Carolina State, Auburn, Florida State, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Penn State, UCLA and Tennessee, among others.
Griffin-Haynes, a consensus four-star prospect, is rated as the No. 114 overall recruit in the 2026 class and the ninth-best player in North Carolina, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
This marks the second in-state junior commitment for UNC football coach Mack Brown, along with Providence Day School quarterback Zaid Lott.
As a sophomore, Griffin-Haynes racked up 27 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks with the Rams.
Currently sitting with a 2-1 record, Rolesville is set to play at Cardinals Gibbons on Friday night.
