CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — No. 3 North Carolina topped No. 6 West Virginia Monday night in the last game of the season at Carmichael Arena, setting up a date with their archrival in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
The Tar Heels (29-7) defeated the Mountaineers (25-8) 58-47 in a second round game in the Birmingham 2 Regional.
Alyssa Ustby led UNC with 21 points and seven rebounds. Reniya Kelly and Lexi Donarski each added 11 points.
Only one West Virginia player, Jordan Harrison, scored in double digits for the Mountaineers. She finished with 10 points, while Kyah Watson added nine points and pulled down 15 rebounds.
The Tar Heels move on to play No. 2 Duke Friday in Birmingham in the Sweet 16.
