GREENSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — After earning a first-round bye, the North Carolina Tar Heels women’s basketball team is playing their first game of the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon.
UNC is set to tip off against the Miami Hurricanes, who also earned a first-round bye, at 1:30 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum.
The Tar Heels (19-11 overall, 11-7 ACC) topped rival Duke in Chapel Hill on Sunday to end the regular season. UNC is 3-2 in their last five games, but the three wins came against the Blue Devils, nationally-ranked NC State and Wake Forest.
In that stretch, star Deja Kelly has averaged 16 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game in 39.6 minutes. She played every minute of each game except for 2 minutes against the Wolfpack.
Miami (18-11, 8-10) lost in overtime to Georgia Tech at home on Sunday in their final game of the regular season. In that game, the Hurricanes’ leading scorer Shayeanne Day-Wilson posted a season-high 27 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists in 41 minutes.
