CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WNCN) — North Carolina rolled to a win Wednesday in the second round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, but they’ll face a tougher challenge Thursday.
The Tar Heels (21-12 overall, 14-7 ACC) face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (21-10, 13-7) in the semifinal round. Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte.
UNC easily won their first game in this event, winning by a final score of 75-56. Jae’Lyn Withers scored 21 points on 7 for 10 shooting from behind the three-point arc for the Tar Heels. Ven-Allen Lubin also had a big day, recording a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Wake Forest earned a double-bye and has yet to play a game in this ACC Tournament. The Demon Deacons ended the regular season with a 69-43 win against Georgia Tech on Saturday. In that game, Wake Forest’s star duo of Cameron Hildreth and Hunter Sallis scored 14 points and 13 points, respectively, to lead the team.
The two teams met once earlier this season in Winston-Salem. The Demon Deacons narrowly won that game, 67-66, on Jan. 21. UNC’s RJ Davis led all scorers with 21 points in that contest.
The winner of this game will move on to play Friday night in the semifinal round.
